6 Cool Suiting Trends Early Adopters Are Already Wearing

Suiting is the trend that simply won’t quit. For many years now, different versions of suiting have become mainstays on the runway and integral in the wardrobes of the fashion set, and continue to evolve as new seasons arrive. First, it was the ever-presence of the blazer, then oversize, boxy versions. Matching pantsuit sets have also dominated and become a bonafide uniform amongst the fashion set. So, what are the cool suiting trends to know about that will define the year ahead?

We’re already seeing early adopters wearing fresh takes on the coolest new suiting trends for 2020. Right now, it’s all about new proportions, new materials, and new shapes. Whether it’s constructed from leather, styled with a waistcoat, or worn with shorts instead of trousers, the new updates on suiting all reinterpret the classic standby. Ahead, see the 6 major suiting trends that will be everywhere this year and shop my edit.

Short suits are a particularly great trend to wear for spring but can also be styled with knee-high boots for colder weather. Frankie Shop has a set that has already been spotted all over the street style scene and hits at a great price point.

Leather pieces, in general, were one of the biggest trends to dominate the S/S 20 runways so it’s no surprise we’re seeing the material make it’s way to suiting. This is certainly one of the most luxe ways to wear the trend this year.

Another trend borrowed from the S/S 20 runways? Bra tops. Lingerie-inspired pieces will be everywhere in a few months and this is a cool and easy way to tap into the trend, since you can really work with the pieces you already have in your closet.

While it may not be the most obviously wearable trend, waistcoats had a huge presence on the S/S 20 runways and I’m personally ready to try them out. Worn as a three-piece suit, the look is a major statement but can also be styled separately with jeans if you’re looking to channel a ’90s Kate Moss.

Corporate suiting classically sticks to neutrals like greys and blacks but when it comes to fashion suiting, we’re seeing bold colors being introduced. The addition of strong colors makes the suits feel more fun and designed to wear outside of the office.

Boxy cuts won’t be going anywhere but we’re also seeing a focus on sharp tailoring. Even if you don’t find the perfect fit, a few simple tailoring tweaks can make all the difference.
