Of all the popular Marvel shows on Netflix, few have generated the same amount of buzz as Jessica Jones. Daredevil may have set the bar high with its early-2015 debut, but there’s no questioning the sheer power of the Krysten Ritter-led follow-up effort. Over its 13-episode Season 1 run, we were treated to a stunning narrative on abuse victims, set to the backdrop of Marvel’s decidedly grimmer Netflix universe. Knowing all this, it was no surprise to anyone when Jessica Jones was officially picked up for a second season.
This marks a huge landmark for the show for a couple reasons. First and foremost, it’s proof positive that a female superhero can carry her own series, stacking well on top of ABC’s Agent Carter and The CW’s Supergirl. Secondly, scoring a second season is no small feat considering the already-busy Netflix schedule.
So without further ado, here’s everything we’ve heard so far about Season 2 of Jessica Jones.
1. There’s no official release date
We have the “what”: Jessica Jones is coming back for a second season, in tandem with her planned role in The Defenders crossover series. What we don’t have is the “when.” Marvel and Netflix have a metric ton of new content coming down the pipeline.
There’s The Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) in 2017, and all our heroes will come together in The Defenders that same year. Netflix recently confirmed that Season 2 of Jessica Jones isn’t likely to arrive until 2018, in order to make room for the debuts of other heroes.
