Jose Mourinho press conference FULL TRANSCRIPT: Manchester United boss answers questions on his future

Jose Mourinho aimed a sensational dig at his Manchester United players ahead of the clash with Valencia.

The United boss has come under more pressure this week following the dismal defeat at West Ham – on the back of the Carabao Cup defeat to Derby.

It ensured United’s worst start to the season since 1989 with storm clouds gathering over Old Trafford.

Mourinho was defiant in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash as he was asked about his future and Zinedine Zidane potentially replacing him.

Here is a full transcript of the press conference from United’s under-fire manager.

How big is this week for you and your team?

“Champions League week is always a good week, even if you expect – a difficult match and a difficult opponent.

“It is a big week. Everybody wants to play Champions League and not everybody can do it. We are here and we have the chance to play a big match.

“Big match, big week.”

How has the reaction been from your players?

“Reaction? Every player is different, no player is the same.

“I see different reactions, but sometimes what you see is different from the inside.

“I see some people on the outside look like they haven’t lost a game, but in training they are working hard.”

Are you still getting the effort from your players?

“I told already that after 20 years of football, I am still the kid I was and am still naïve.

“I don’t believe the players are not honest.

“Ask these people with great reputations if at any time they want to a game, not to give their maximum, not to try to give their best.

“If someone tells me that they were a player and at any occasion didn’t give their best, then I change my opinion.

“Until any player tells me they were dishonest, I will always believe every player gives their best.

“If they perform or don’t perform, it is a different story.”

What about the stats that your players ran less than any other team?

“The stats are the stats. And another thing is the man himself.”

Have you spoken to Ed Woodward?

“That’s a private matter. I’m not asking who you speak to. That’s a private matter.”

Is it the players’ fault that you are losing games?

“It’s the responsibility of everybody.

“The performance is the consequence of many factors.

“I agreed with some of what Luke Shaw said, I like that perspective but I don’t agree totally.

“It’s all of us. Everybody in the club has a role to play, the kit man and the nutritionist.”

What can you change?

“What I can do to improve things, I do. And I will improve the things that depend on me.”

Do you think some of your players don’t care?

“Sometimes what it looks is the opposite.

“You can be laughing non the outside and be the saddest person in the world or look really sad and be a great actor and be happy on the inside.”

“I think that some care more than others?”

Will you say who?

“No”

Have you spoken to Zinedine Zidane?

“Ask the guy behind you, he wrote the story.”

“Oh, yes he has!”

Is this the biggest challenge of your career?

“I don’t know.”

Is your job on the line?

“No, I don’t think so.”
