Mel B: I’m in treatment for PTSD, not in rehab for alcohol or sex

Mel B wants to clarify that she’s getting treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, not going to rehab for alcohol abuse or sex addiction — despite previously saying she was addressing issues with sex and alcohol in conjunction with her PTSD treatment.

“Well, it kind of got a little bit skewed with, let’s put it that way,” Mel, 43, told guest host Lea Michele on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday. “I’ve been in therapy since my father got diagnosed with cancer nine years ago. My therapy changed a little bit because I was in a very intense relationship, which you can all read about in my book.”

“I do address a lot of those issues,” the former Spice Girl conceded, “but you know, no, I’m not an alcoholic. No, I’m not a sex addict.”

She added of her disastrous marriage and divorce from Stephen Belafonte, “I was with the same person for 10 years and that was quite a turmoil, very intense. That’s all I can say about it … I address a lot of those issues and I did kind of have to ease my pain. And I do suffer a lot from PTSD.”

In her original statement to The Sun on Sunday, Mel admitted that she turned to the bedroom and booze to cope with underlying issues, saying they resurfaced when she began working on her upcoming memoir, “Brutally Honest,” and that she was diagnosed with PTSD earlier this month.

“I am being very honest in my book about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on,” she said. “Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol — it is underneath all that.”

She added that she’d be undergoing treatment in her native UK, focusing on eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a common treatment for those suffering from PTSD.

Mel also described being in an “emotionally abusive relationship,” likely referring to her marriage to Belafonte, 43, who she previously accused of domestic violence and sexual exploitation, including filming threesomes without her consent and having an affair with their nanny, Lorraine Gilles.

Belafonte and Gilles vehemently denied the accusations, with each alleging that Mel filmed sex videos of her own free will.

In documents previously obtained by Page Six, Belafonte claimed that Mel had substance abuse issues and alleged she was often intoxicated in front of her children.

The “America’s Got Talent” judge recently finalized her divorce from Belafonte after more than a year in court battling over spousal support and custody of their shared six-year-old daughter Madison.

Mel also claimed in her statement to have been “financially battered and at the mercy of the legal system, which is completely weighted against emotionally abused women because it’s very hard to prove how someone took away all your self-respect and self-worth.”

She was ordered to pay Belafonte $350,000 in legal fees and $5,000 in monthly child support. The exes, who put their $7.7 million Los Angeles home on the market, were also ordered to set aside cash from the eventual sale to pay back a tax lien against them. During their divorce proceedings, film producer Belafonte claimed he was destitute without Mel’s financial support, requesting $4,300 for groceries, $11,000 for housing, $2,000 for clothing and $750 for his cellphone bill every month.
