Chelsea boss Sarri aims to convince Courtois to snub Real
New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri aims to convince goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to snub a move to Real Madrid.
Betting has been suspended on the big Belgian joining Los Blancos amid claims a transfer has already been agreed.
The La Liga club are said to be willing to pay up to £36m for the 26-year-old, who would become the world’s highest paid keeper on £250,000-a-week.
However, Italian Sarri hopes he can convince Courtois and his compatriot Eden Hazard to commit to Chelsea.
“The players you are referring to are very high level players and I would like to keep them in my squad,” he said on Wednesday.
“A telephone call without looking them in the eyes would not give me any certainty.
“I would like to meet these players face to face, talk to them and understand what the best thing to do would be for everyone.
“Before that I would also like a player to come on the pitch for four or five days together with me, to have a clear idea of what the situation is.”
