It’s been well over a year since Star Wars: The Force Awakens catapulted to the top of the all-time domestic box office and audiences are eager for more. But fans who can’t wait to find out whether Rey is truly a member of the Skywalker family are actually already one step closer to answers. Director Rian Johnson and the cast have begun production on The Last Jedi, announcing the returning cast and new additions like Oscar winners Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern.
As this new trilogy develops, we can’t help but wonder if any other familiar faces will be joining the film. Here are a few classic original trilogy characters who could show up in the saga’s next installment. For the record, we’re keeping Darth Vader off this list for now. That’s a topic for another day.
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Hardcore Star Wars fans probably know by now that Ewan McGregor — whose Obi-Wan remains one of the highlights of the prequel trilogy — recorded a line of dialogue for Rey’s vision in The Force Awakens, in which he tells her that “these are [her] first steps.” Considering the persistent rumors about the actor reprising the role in either one of the new films or a solo release set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it isn’t hard to imagine him showing up in Episode VIII as a Force ghost to guide either Luke and/or Rey as they prepare to take on Snoke and the First Order.
