There’s been a good deal of talk lately concerning the possibility of a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. According to unnamed sources cited by Variety, a Star Wars anthology movie focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently in “early development” at Disney. Per the sources, director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) is in talks to helm the film. It certainly makes sense given the current climate of the franchise. Ewan McGregor is ready and willing, and after the new trilogy wraps up in 2019, Lucasfilm will have to figure out a way to keep the Star Wars saga alive well into the future. So why not head to the deserts of Tatooine and fill in some of those lost years for a franchise favorite?
As McGregor recently pointed out, at 46, he’s even the perfect age to portray Kenobi during his exiled years (Alec Guinness was 63 when he played the role in Star Wars: A New Hope). This leads us to a whole bunch of potential storylines, each of which could carry its own film.
