CNN’s new ‘This is an apple’ ad targets Trump

CNN is fighting back against President Donald Trump’s “fake news” tweets.

In an ad released today, CNN rebuts charges by Trump and his supporters that CNN and other mainstream outlets make up news stories. The ad is simple and to the point.

“This is an apple. Some people might try and tell you that it’s a banana,” the ad copy reads. “They night scream banana, banana, banana over and over and over again. They might put BANANA in all caps. You might even start to believe that this is a banana. But it’s not. This is an apple.”

If you’ve paid attention to President Trump’s tweets over the past 10 months, you’ve probably noticed a trend where the president consistently calls any media coverage that is negative toward the administration “fake news.”

Trump has taken special aim at CNN, though. His most famous anti-media tweet could arguably be a video where Trump is seen body slamming a person with the CNN logo superimposed over his face.

He followed that one up by retweeting — and later deleting — an image of a “Trump train” running over a person sort-of-wearing a CNN logo.

Trump has also gone on record wondering why the press is able to “write whatever they want to write, and people should look into it.”

Don’t expect Trump to stop this line of attack any time soon. This morning he posted a reference to a Politico/Morning Consult poll that showed nearly half of those surveyed believed mainstream news outlets “fabricate news stories” about Trump.
