Southampton set for double swoop
Southampton are closing in on a double swoop for defender Jannik Vestergaard and goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Mark Hughes is on the verge of wrapping up deals for the pair as he continues his big-money overhaul of his squad.
Hughes has already splashed out £23m to sign attacking midfielder Stuart Armstrong and exciting forward Mohamed Elyounoussi.
And Monchengladbach centre-back Vestergaard and Manchester City’s young stopper Gunn are set to be the next arrivals at St Mary’s.
Saints are hoping to seal Vestergaard’s £18m deal and Gunn’s switch this week.
City wanted £15m for Gunn, who was part of England’s pre-World Cup training camp, but the two clubs are set to do business for a lower compromise figure.
Vestergaard, 25, is set for a medical after Southampton agreed a fee with Germans Monchengladbach.
He was part of Denmark’s World Cup squad but didn’t feature in Russia.
Southampton have made their move for England under-21 keeper Gunn, son of Norwich City legend Bryan, as they are keen to offload out-of-favour Fraser Forster.
City are ready to cash in on Gunn, 22, with Ederson, who is just two years older, established as their No.1 and after tying the Brazilian down to a new six year contract in May.
